Getting Out and About in Bluebonnet Country

Whether you're looking to explore Texas history, experience culinary delights, or attend any of the dozens of area festivals, you'll find lots to do in Bluebonnet Country.

In nearby Brenham, a favorite stop is Blue Bell Creameries where you can explore the history of one of Brenham's oldest and most loyal businesses. Don't forget to stop at their ice cream parlor for a scoop of your favorite flavor! Or enjoy a picnic lunch (we'll even pack one for you) at Washington-on-the-Brazos State Park, then tour the Star of the Republic Museum and the Barrington Living History Farm to learn more about the birthplace of Texas.

The region is well-known as the home of the Round Top Antiques Fair, held semi-annually in the spring and fall. The Washington County Fair (the oldest continuous county fair in the state) signals the end of the summer each year.

Other local festivals include Chappell Hill's Bluebonnet Festival (second weekend in April) and Scarecrow Festival (second weekend in October) and Burton's Cotton Gin Festival (third weekend in April).

Texas Star Winery is one of our local partners and we encourage you to spend some time in their Tasting Room trying some of their amazing wines. Other local wineries include Pleasant Hill (their annual grape stomp events are legendary!) in Brenham, Saddlehorn in Burton, Yellow Brick Road in Sealy, Messina Hof in Bryan, and Rohan Meadery in La Grange.

If you love to boot scoot boogie the night away, The Kenney Store in Bellville is the place for you. Come and hear live music on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, and dance with the locals who will treat you like one of their own. Food and drink available.

The Jersey Barnyard in La Grange is a family-friendly farm that encourages petting and feeding all of their animals. You can even bottle feed an adorable Jersey calf. Visit with the farmers, take a hayride tour, learn about farming and agriculture, and enjoy an ice cream cone on the porch before you leave. It's a wonderful way to spend an afternoon with the kids.
